Competition Team

We are incredibly passionate about dance and that’s why we offer more performance opportunities for those students who just can’t get enough. Our competition program is designed to help them learn discipline, teamwork and to achieve their personal best. Competition gives our students a chance to show their dedication to dance and build a higher level of leadership, self-confidence and self-reliance. Through participation in competitions and conventions, we hope to instill in our students an appreciation for other dancers and teachers. We intend to motivate and inspire by exposing them to the highest level of talent available. Being part of a team requires a more serious time commitment, additional expenses and dedication beyond the normal dance year.

Placement on our competition team is by personal invitation to our audition process held in June. The invitation and newly formed class placements are based on the previous year’s evaluations of a student’s technique, ability, dedication, showmanship and accomplishment.

Our competitive teams commit to 2-3 evening a week. Depending on team level, we attend one local competition and 2-3 regional competitions as well as 2-3 dance conventions. Our Summer Workshop program is a requirement for all competitive dancers. Master and guest teachers in addition to our faculty, will teach classes throughout July and early August. We travel every few years in July to perform in Disney, to take classes in NYC or compete at a National competition.

We believe that competition should be considered a valuable tool for learning and challenging oneself. We are proud of our award-winning competition teams and are happy to have trained and given our students the confidence to set and achieve their goals.

Team Levels

Petites – Ages 6 & 7

This level is a “stepping stone” for our younger dancers to explore the exciting opportunity of competing. Students in this program compete in one local competition in the Spring. This allows them to see if they enjoy the competitive atmosphere and if they want to continue down that path. Students are required to take Tap, Jazz and Ballet. They learn about the audition process.

Minis – Ages 8-10

This level is geared toward those dancers that are becoming more committed and have the enthusiasm and focus to learn more difficult things. In addition to Tap, Jazz and Ballet, they are required to add a Technique class to elevate their dance training. Students compete in one local and one regional competition in the Spring. They attend one convention. Students must audition.

Juniors – Ages 11-13

Students at this level have the drive and dedication to push themselves to learn to a higher level. They are required to take Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Technique, and Lyrical and encouraged to take extra technique and ballet classes. Students attend 2 competitions and 1-2 conventions. Students must audition.

Teens – Ages 13+

Most of our teen students take 5 or more classes per week. They are dedicated and committed to their team and work hard at an intermediate to advanced level. They compete in 2-3 competitions during the year and attend 2 conventions.

Seniors 14+

These students have been committed to a competition team for several years. They are self-motivated, focused and are ready to take on the challenge of several conventions and competitions during the year. They are at our advanced level and take 7 or more classes a week.
